Dell AppAssure was a series of backup solutions. AppAssure version 5 added the capability to back up Linux servers, physical and virtual. It was developed as a Windows-only backup solution with deep integration for the following Windows application servers: MS Exchange, MS SQL, and MS SharePoint. It also supports backing up Windows VMs hosted in MS Hyper-V and VMWare ESX environments. It provides global deduplication, easy set-up, and ease of use (according to both the product site and the many reviews referenced in this article). The product strives to minimize recovery time (Near-Zero Recovery Time Objective) and provide 5-minute recovery point granularity. It also purports to be scalable and to allow recovery of backups to any location/VM - even if they have dissimilar hardware from the backup source. It also allows granular object-level recovery for both files and application level objects (such as emails).
